The Los Angeles Lakers appear to have climbed out of their fog. Their Friday opponent, the Brooklyn Nets, are currently in the thick of it.
L.A. is looking to string together three straight wins for the first time since early December, and they’re a 6.5-point favorite in the NBA odds to do so.
The Nets, meanwhile, have dropped four straight and nine of their last 10, a freefall that’s dropped them out of the playoff picture all together as they sit 11th in the East.

Nets vs Lakers predictions
After suffering through a 2-11 stretch, the Los Angeles Lakers have wins in four of their last six. And while that’s a modest mark, the competition hasn’t been, which is what makes this run more encouraging.
The Lakers own wins over the Clippers, Thunder, and Mavericks over this stretch — all teams that currently sit in playoff spots in the West. After topping OKC on Monday, the Lakers clubbed Dallas 127-110 with an impressive offensive attack, shooting a blistering 53.8% from the field while enjoying a 32-7 edge in fast-break points.
Their tinkered starting lineup came up aces, with D’Angelo Russell leading the way with 29 points. Anthony Davis had 28 points, 12 boards, and nine assists, while LeBron James had 25 points, eight rebounds, and eight dimes.
Defensively, L.A. held Dallas — the seventh-highest scoring team in the league — to just 110 points, limiting them to 11-for-40 from deep. The Lakers turned Dallas over 15 times and converted those turnovers into 20 points.
Despite their struggles, the Brooklyn Nets have been gamers. They’ve lost their last two games by a single possession, and each of their last four by single digits. Last time out, they lost 105-103 to the Portland Trail Blazers, a game after the Miami Heat outlasted them 96-95 in OT.
These two teams are right beside each other in scoring, with L.A. averaging 114.4 points (18th), just one spot better than Brooklyn at 113.8. The Lakers surrender 115.4 points per Game (16th), again, one spot above the Nets at 115.6.
I think the Nets have the wings that can defend well enough to make things hard for the Lakers, assuming Mikal Bridges is a go as he deals with a shin injury.
The Under has hit in two of the last three head-to-heads, but the game that hit the Over had a ridiculously-low total of 218. I’m looking for more of a rock fight than a shootout here.

Part of L.A.’s recent success is the emergence of D’Angelo Russell as a consistent contributor. The Lakers attempt the fewest 3-pointers at the 18th best clip of 35.9%, so Russell’s shooting is crucial to making this work.
D-Lo has been delivering. Through January, he’s averaging 3.5 hits per game on nearly eight attempts, connecting at a 44.7% rate. He went 5-for-7 from distance against the Mavs, and has crossed his 2.5-make line set for Friday four times in his last six, and fell short by a single make in the other two. Being in range when laying down a prop in a SGP is all you can ask for.
We’ll wrap this up with the sudden passing prowess of Davis. AD has been averaging 25.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in January, but it’s his 5.4 assists that has our attention.
Books have him at a very reachable 3.5 assist line, a number he has cruised by in three straight games, averaging 8.3 dimes in that stretch. He’s had four or more assists in seven of the last 10 games.
The Lakers have been sharing the ball a ton over the last six Games, doling out 30.5 assists per Game. Davis will finish a lot, but I think he will continue to dish with frequency for L.A.

Nets vs Lakers spread and Over/Under analysis
The spread has been as high as 7.5 points, but has moved down a full point and sits at 6.5 at almost every book.
These are not great cover teams, as the Nets are 19-19-1 against the spread this season while the Lakers are a brutal 18-24-0 ATS. Los Angeles has covered in two of the last three head-to-heads.
The total has touched 230.5, but you’ll find most sites offering the total in the 227-point range.
Like their spread record, Brooklyn nearly splits down the middle, with the Over going 19-20-1. The Lakers have split evenly at 21-21.
