Carlo Ancelotti Girona post-match quotes: Vinicius, Jude Bellingham injury, LaLiga title race

Image
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti sat down in front of the press after his side defeated title challengers Girona at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. With the win, Los Blancos went 5 points clear at the top of the LaLiga standings. You must be proud of Madrid’s fantastic win : “Very happy. We played the game at a very high level. We were very humble at the back; we had a very high defensive commitment. It allowed us to defend well, win balls back and take advantage of the quality we have in front of us.” What did Madrid do well to score four goals against Girona and keep a clean sheet? “I think we managed the Game well. In defence, we played with a fairly low block to avoid problems at the back, considering the emergency [ injury situation] we had. And then, we took advantage of good ball control in the opponent’s half, we used verticality to make transitions. I think we played well”. 👇 @vinijr: "It was the best match of the season." #RealMadridGirona pic.twitter.com...

Marquez enduring "worst moment" of MotoGP career aside from injury

Image
The Honda factory rider returned to MotoGP action at Assen after withdrawing from the last round at the Sachsenring following five crashes during the weekend that left him with multiple fractures. Marquez crashed into Enea Bastianini during Q1 in an incident he later apologised for, and was unable to progress from his 17th position on the grid in Saturday's sprint race. The result represented the lowest ever on-the-road finishing position for the eight-time world champion, who also suffered a crash in Friday's FP2 session, in his MotoGP career to date. He languished almost 20 seconds behind sprint winner Marco Bezzecchi's VR46 Ducati after just 13 laps, having taken a soft front tyre to gain maximum feedback, and later explained that he was "too relaxed, not pushing". Reflecting on his struggles, Marquez said only the long layoff following his arm injury sustained at Jerez in 2020 could surpass his current experience. "Apart from the [2020] injur...

LeBron James update: Lakers star returning vs. Bulls after missing 13 games with foot injury

LeBron James is making his return from a right foot injury on Sunday against the Bulls, the Lakers announced less than an hour before tipoff. James has missed his team's past 13 games due to that foot injury, but tested it in pregame warmups and is good to go in the Sunday matinee in Los Angeles. However, James will not be part of the Lakers starting lineup. Instead, James will come off the bench for just the second time in his NBA career (1,414 regular season games) and the first time since 2007. The injury itself came in the middle of a Feb. 26 clash with the Dallas Mavericks. The Lakers trailed by as many as 27 points in the Game , but James played through the injury to help the Lakers complete the comeback. He finished that contest with 26 points, eight rebounds and three assists, but he has been sidelined ever since. LeBron just got out here for warmups 👀 pic.twitter.com/7nrSha0912 — Dani...

LeBron James injury update: Lakers expect star forward to return this season, says coach Darvin Ham

LeBron James is running out of time to return to the court. As of Sunday, the end of the regular season is only three weeks away, and yet it isn't clear when the injured Los Angeles Lakers star will be able to rejoin the team. Fortunately, coach Darvin Ham offered a positive update on his status ahead of Sunday's Game against the Orlando Magic: while he wouldn't specify an exact timeline, Ham did confirm that the Lakers "anticipate him coming back at some point." James suffered a foot injury on Feb. 26 against the Dallas Mavericks. He stayed on the floor to help the Lakers overcome a 27-point deficit to defeat the Mavericks, but he has not played for them since. While the exact nature of the injury is unclear, The Athletic's Shams Charania recently reported that the Lakers are preparing for a lengthy absence. All things considered, the Lakers have played quite well without James. Si...

Zion Williamson injury update: Pelicans star to miss multiple weeks after All-Star break with hamstring strain

Zion Williamson is expected to miss several weeks after the All-Star break with a hamstring strain, New Orleans Pelicans vice president David Griffin told reporters Sunday. Williamson has been sidelined with a hamstring strain since January and was expected to be re-evaluated during the All-Star break. However, it appears his return will be a little bit further down the line after re-aggravating it.  Williamson was named an All-Star starter for the Feb. 19 Game due to his performance prior to the injury . But given he won't be available to participate, NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced that Domantas Sabonis will fill the starting role in the frontcourt in place of the Pelicans forward.  Williamson suffered a right hamstring strain during a Jan. 2 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. He has been out ever since, and the Pelicans have struggled to stay afloat without him. They are 6-14 since he went down, and...

Luka Doncic injury update: Mavericks star to miss Saturday's game vs. Jazz with mild ankle sprain

Freshly-named NBA All-Star starter Luka Doncic gingerly walked off the floor with an ankle injury in the first quarter of the Dallas Mavericks game against the Phoenix Suns Thursday night. Though he is expected to be listed as day-to-day with what was determined a mild left ankle sprain, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Mavericks announced Friday evening that Doncic will miss Saturday night's game against the Utah Jazz. With just under nine minutes to play versus the Suns, Doncic tried to drive to the basket but was cut off by Cameron Johnson and had to spin back the other way. As he did so, he stepped right on Mikal Bridges' foot and awkwardly rolled his left ankle. He immediately winced in pain and hobbled back down the floor. After Torrey Craig hit a 3-pointer, the Mavericks called a timeout to get Doncic out of the game.  Luka went back to the locker room with an apparent ankle inj...

Anthony Davis injury update: Lakers star to return Wednesday after missing nearly six weeks, per report

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis will return to the lineup Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs barring any setbacks in his pre-game warmups, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin. Davis has been out since Dec. 16, when he suffered a stress reaction in his right foot while also fracturing a bone spur. Davis will be on a minutes restriction of 20-24 minutes, according to McMenamin. Davis was playing arguably the best basketball of his career before he got hurt. He is averaging 27.4 points and 12.1 rebounds per Game for the Lakers, but more importantly, he managed to drag them out of the bottom the standings after they started the season 2-10. From that moment, at which point LeBron James was injured, Davis led the Lakers to a 9-6 record up until his injury . He averaged roughly 33 points per Game in that stretch if you exclude the two Game s he left early . Davis carried the Lakers when James was out, bu...

Graham Potter press conference: Reece James injury; Zakaria impact; Nottingham Forest team news

Graham Potter has addressed the media ahead of Chelsea's trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday. The Blues returned to Premier League action with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Bournemouth last time out but were granted no relief in their endless battle with the injury bug, with Reece James aggravating his knee issue and heading to the sidelines for another month. Unsurprisingly, James' fitness was a big part of Potter's pre-match press conference ahead of the Forest Game . Here's the best bits. Reece James How difficult is it coping without James? Did you learn anything from the first spell without him? "If you go back to the Newcastle Game , we had no Kepa, no Reece, no Wesley [Fofana], no Ben Chilwell, we lost Marc Cucurella with illness overnight, lost Ruben Loftus-Cheek after two minutes, had no [N’Golo] Kante, lost Cesar Azpilicueta after 20 minutes, and also had no Raheem Sterling. That was simply the period we were in, and we still have quite a few guys that...
