Aston Martin address F1 win talk ahead as Alonso target looms
Aston Martin Technical Director Dan Fallows has cooled talk of a Formula 1 win in 2023, saying the team are "realistic" about claiming victory on merit.
The Silverstone based squad have emerged as Red Bull's closest challengers this season, with Fernando Alonso taking four third place finishes from the opening five rounds, which have all been won by either Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez.
Although the AMR23 is a big step forward for the team in allowing them to break into the so-called 'big three', the design is draggy meaning Alonso and Lance Stroll are at a disadvantage on conventional race tracks.
However, Alonso has targeted the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix as a race he could challenge for victory at given that track's unique characteristics.
