Reece James sets target for Chelsea return date

Image
Chelsea captain Reece James is nearing a return from injury and could return to action against Arsenal after the October international break. The right-back has been sidelined with a hamstring problem sustained in the Blues' 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. Mauricio Pochettino's side looked promising in that stalemate with the Reds but they have since won just once in the Premier League. Chelsea have dropped to 14th place having picked up five points from their opening six games, while Pochettino has had to contend with plenty of injuries early on in his tenure at Stamford Bridge. However, the Daily Mail report that he will soon be boosted by the return of James, who is stepping up his recovery from his hamstring strain. Climate change and the shift to cleaner energy push Southeast Asia to finally start sharing power

The urgency for Southeast Asian nations to switch to clean energy to combat climate change is breathing new life into a 20-year-old plan for the region to share power Hanoi, VIETNAM -- The urgency for Southeast Asian nations to switch to clean energy to combat climate change is reinvigorating a 20-year-old plan for the region to share power. Malaysia and Indonesia inked a deal in Bali, Indonesia last month to study 18 potential locations where cross-border transmission lines can be set up. Those links could eventually generate power roughly equivalent to what 33 nuclear power plants would produce in a year. They are economically and technically feasible, and now are supported by regional governments, said Beni Suryadi a power expert at the ASEAN Centre for Energy in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN is a political and economic gathering of 10 countries across a vast region, from tiny Brunei and Singapore to military-controlled Myanmar and fast-r

OpenAI's ChatGPT will 'see, hear and speak' in major update

OpenAI's ChatGPT is getting a major update that will enable the viral chatbot to have voice conversations with users and interact using images, moving it closer to popular artificial intelligence (AI) assistants like Apple's Siri. The voice feature "opens doors to many creative and accessibility-focused applications", OpenAI said in a blog post on Monday. Similar AI services like Siri, Google voice assistant and Amazon.com's Alexa are integrated with the devices they run on and are often used to set alarms and reminders, and deliver information off the internet. Since its debut last year, ChatGPT has been adopted by companies for a wide range of tasks from summarizing documents to writing computer code, setting off a race amongst Big Tech companies to launch their own offerings based on generative AI. ChatGPT's new voice feature can also narrate bedtime stories, settle debates at the dinner table, and speak out loud text input from users. The Technol

Pope Francis insists Europe doesn't have a migrant emergency and challenges countries to open ports

Pope Francis is challenging French President Emmanuel Macron and other European leaders to open their ports to people fleeing hardship and poverty MARSEILLE, France -- MARSEILLE, France (AP) — Pope Francis challenged French President Emmanuel Macron and other European leaders to open their ports to people fleeing hardship and poverty, insisting Saturday that the continent isn't facing a migration “ emergency ” but rather a long-term reality that governments must deal with humanely. For a second straight day in the French port city of Marseille, Francis took aim at European countries that have used “alarmist propaganda” to justify closing their doors to migrants, and tried to shame them into responding with charity instead. He called for migrants to have legal pathways to citizenship, and for the Mediterranean Sea that so many cross to reach Europe to be a beacon of hope, not a graveyard of desperation. The Mediterranean, Francis told Macron and a gathering of regional bishops, “cr

Stock market today: Wall Street closes its worst week in six months with more losses

Wall Street wheezed to more losses as it limped to the finish of its worst week in six months NEW YORK -- Wall Street wheezed to more losses Friday as it limped to the finish of its worst week in six months. The S & P 500 slipped 9.94 points, or 0.2%, to 4,320.06 after a late-day swoon erased a modest gain it had held for most of the day. It capped an ugly slide caused by Wall Street's growing understanding that interest rates likely won’t come down much anytime soon. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 106.58 points, or 0.3%, to 33,963.84, and the Nasdaq composite dipped 12.18, or 0.1%, to 13,211.81. Pressure has built on Wall Street as yields in the bond market climbed to their highest levels in more than a decade. They’d been rising for months and accelerated this week after the Federal Reserve indicated it’s unlikely to cut its main interest rate by as much in 2024 as investors had hoped. The federal funds rate is at its highest level since 2001, which grinds down on in
