Golden Knights vs Oilers Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight - NHL

The Western Conference-leading Vegas Golden Knights have hit their first slump of the season, going 3-5-2 over their last 10 games while their opponent — the Edmonton Oilers — have caught fire with 13 goals over their last two wins. These results have forced NHL odds to make the Oilers home favorites despite the overall records.

Connor McDavid is finally looking like himself with nine points in his last two outings, much to the delight of his NHL player props backers, and he'll try to lead Edmonton to its second three-Game win streak of the season.

Golden Knights vs Oilers predictions

It’s been a strange season for Connor McDavid, who’s had one of his slowest starts to a campaign in quite a while as he’s played through injury, team struggles, and a coaching change before the quarter mark of 2023-24.

The Edmonton Oilers captain has exploded offensively over the last four games, though, nearly doubling his point total for the season with 12 points over that span — highlighted by a four-assist outing against the Capitals on Friday and a five-point performance vs. the Ducks on Sunday.

McDavid now skates into tonight’s matchup with a very respectable 25 points in 18 games, as well as a chance to become the first player in NHL history to post four assists in three straight contests. What’s even more impressive about McDavid’s run is he hasn’t relied solely on the power play — collecting just four of his 12 points on the man advantage — while his seven points at even strength since the start of last week rank first in the NHL.

The Vegas Golden Knights do own the stingiest defense in the league at just 2.36 goals against per game but they’ve slipped a bit of late, surrendering at least three goals in six of their last 10 outings and four-plus goals on four occasions during this skid.

McDavid has posted multiple points in three of his last four games and four of his last seven outings, and now that he’s finally firing on all cylinders, I’m banking on him to collect another two points tonight.

My best bet: Connor McDavid Over 1.5 points (-105 at SIA)

Unfortunately, my best bet isn’t available as part of the same-game parlay, so I’ll switch my attention to some team wagers. The streaking Oilers come into this matchup as the home favorites and will be facing a slumping Golden Knights team coming off a back-to-back, so I like the hosts to win.

Edmonton is scoring in bunches of late with at least three goals in eight straight games and four-plus tallies in six of those outings. Vegas has been sluggish offensively but will have a chance to put some pucks in the net against an Oilers team that owns the third-worst defense in the NHL — allowing 3.70 gpg.

That said, I’ll round the same-game parlay out by banking on both teams to score Over 2.5 goals and for the game to finish at Over 7.5 goals.

Golden Knights vs Oilers moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Oilers somewhat surprisingly opened as the home favorite at -139 over the best team in the Western Conference with the total set at 6.5 goals. I’ll be looking for McDavid to lead his club to a third straight win while cashing the Over in the process.

Edmonton is 5-3-0 over its last eight games — not an eye-popping record but tied for the third-most points in the NHL since November 11. The Oilers have averaged 4.38 gpg over that span, tops in the NHL, while their power play has clicked at just under 30%. Those are all positive signs for the Oilers, who seem to finally be trending upwards and finding their offensive game.

Vegas, meanwhile, has just six points over that span — tied for fifth worst in the league — and sits dead last with just 1.71 gpg through its last seven contests. Even if the Oilers’ defense falls apart, their offense should carry them to another win if McDavid & Co. stay hot.

Edmonton should also be able to carry this game to the Over as the Oilers have scored five-plus goals in two straight games and four-plus goals in six of their last eight outings. They’ve also given up at least at least four goals in 10 of 20 contests this season, so the Golden Knights will have plenty of chances to run up the score themselves.

The Over is unsurprisingly 5-1 in Edmonton’s last six games and 6-3-1 in the last 10 meetings between these two clubs.
