China's global influence looms over Harris trip to Africa

The global rivalry between the United States and China has been a recurring backdrop during Vice President Kamala Harris’ trip to Africa DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania -- When Vice President Kamala Harris touches down in Lusaka, Zambia on Friday for the final stop of her weeklong trip across Africa, she’ll see a glittering new airport that’s doubled in size. Rather than a symbol of promising local development, it’s a reminder of China’s deep influence there. Beijing financed the project, one of many that has expanded its footprint on a booming continent that's rich in natural resources, often generating goodwill among its citizens. The global rivalry between the United States and China has been a recurring backdrop for Harris’ journey, and nowhere has that been more apparent than Zambia and her previous stop in Tanzania. Besides the airport, China built a 60,000-seat stadium in Lusaka, plus roads and bridges around the country. Zambia is on the hook for all of the development with billion...

Chelsea to use Antonio Rudiger transfer as excuse behind huge losses

Chelsea could hide behind the loss of profits from Antonio Rudiger's free transfer to Real Madrid ahead of a potential Premier League inquiry regarding the club's sizeable losses last season. The west London outfit recently revealed that the club had posted a £121m loss across the 2021/22 season. Chelsea had a deficit of £153.4m the previous year and only made a £32.5m profit during the 2019/20 campaign under a transfer embargo imposed for breaching 150 rules. The club could once again come under fire as the three-year rolling tally of their accounts shows an unflattering £241.9m loss, which greatly exceeds the allowed limit of £105m according to the Premier League's financial fair play rules. However, Chelsea have launched a preemptive offensive to counter any potential punishment surrounding their latest finances by blaming the government sanctions placed on the club's previous owner Roman Abramovich in March 2022. The Russian oligarch Abramovich was one of severa...

Sega And Tencent Are Ditching E3, Other Companies Unsure

Have we witnessed the last E3 and not realized it? This year’s gaming convention has been hyped as a return to form with the first in-person event since 2019. However, it has been made obvious that studios are no longer interested in the E3 format, instead opting to host their own events or skip it altogether. Big studios like Nintendo and Ubisoft have already pulled out of this year’s event and now the convention has lost Sega and Tencent. The folks over at IGN have been reaching out to some of the major studios to discover their E3 attendance status. While several big names like EA, Square Enix, and Epic Game s have yet to comment on their plans, Sega and Tencent reached out to confirm they would not be attending this year’s event. Neither studio gave specific reasoning for their absence, just that the decision was not made lightly. Related: Nobody Wins If E3 Fails The spokesperson for Sega provided this statement to IGN: “After careful...

76ers' Joel Embiid out for MVP showdown vs. Nikola Jokic, Nuggets due to calf soreness and fatigue

Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid has been ruled out for Monday night's MVP showdown against Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets, CBS Sports ' Bill Reiter confirmed. Embiid has been battling foot and calf issues in recent weeks, and he told reporters recently that he's going to need time off soon. He attempted to work out Monday morning, but the team is taking a cautious approach with the playoffs looming. Embiid recently sat out of the second half during his team's win over the Chicago Bulls on March 22 due to calf tightness. Then, following the team's blowout loss to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, Embiid revealed the toll that his major workload is taking.  "I'm going to need one [game off] pretty soon," Embiid said. "It's two things. Like I said, it's all about [being healthy] for the playoffs. You know, like tonight, I was very sloppy. Usually when I'm s...

LeBron James update: Lakers star returning vs. Bulls after missing 13 games with foot injury

LeBron James is making his return from a right foot injury on Sunday against the Bulls, the Lakers announced less than an hour before tipoff. James has missed his team's past 13 games due to that foot injury, but tested it in pregame warmups and is good to go in the Sunday matinee in Los Angeles. However, James will not be part of the Lakers starting lineup. Instead, James will come off the bench for just the second time in his NBA career (1,414 regular season games) and the first time since 2007. The injury itself came in the middle of a Feb. 26 clash with the Dallas Mavericks. The Lakers trailed by as many as 27 points in the Game , but James played through the injury to help the Lakers complete the comeback. He finished that contest with 26 points, eight rebounds and three assists, but he has been sidelined ever since. LeBron just got out here for warmups 👀 pic.twitter.com/7nrSha0912 — Dani...

Lakers reach .500 for first time this season, within reach of top-6 seed in West after win vs. Thunder

When LeBron James went down with an injury in late February, it all but spelled disaster for a Los Angeles Lakers team that was 29-32 at the time. However, in James' absence, the Lakers have managed to go 8-5, and have reached the .500 mark for the first time this season following a 116-111 nail-biting win over the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder Friday night. That's a huge accomplishment for a team that started the season 2-10. All of a sudden, the Lakers now sit in a tie for seventh place with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and are just 1.5 Game s back of the Golden State Warriors for the No. 6 spot in the Western Conference. Since the All-Star break, the Lakers have been playing with a renewed sense of energy, and it has resulted in a Lakers team that looks far different than the one we saw earlier this season that struggled to find consistency on offense.  After the Game , coach Darvin Ham spoke about h...

BREAKING! Earth just receiʋed a radio signal sent froм a galaxy that is 9 Ƅillion light years away

Image
It is the first tiмe that scientists haÊ‹e detected a signal that originates froм another galaxy located 9 Æ„illion light years away froм Earth. The radio signal was captured Æ„y the Giant MetrewaÊ‹e Radio Telescope located in Pune, India. The giant radio telescope includes a field of 30 dish antennas all pointed skyward with each dish aÆ„out 150 feet in diaмeter. Using this sophisticated telescope, scientists detected a unique radio signal with a unique waÊ‹elength known as the 21-centiмeter line or the hydrogen line. This signal is eмitted Æ„y neutral hydrogen atoмs. Unfortunately, this unique signal did not coмe froм aliens. It is eмitted froм a galaxy called SDSSJ0826+5630. The galaxy is a “star forмing galaxy.” The fascinating aspect aÆ„out the radio signal is that it was eмitted when the Milky Way Galaxy (Earth is a part of the Milky Way Galaxy) was just 4.9 Æ„illion years old. Currently, the Milky Way Galaxy is estiмated to Æ„e 13.8 Æ„illion years old. Hence, it ...

It’s National Puppy Day – Show us yours! Random acts of kindness to celebrate.

Every dog that I have been blessed to have in my life, from childhood to present, has been adopted and I will never buy a puppy, knowing that millions of them sit alone in the shelter every day, all over the world. There is no way to describe the pain this causes my heart, to imagine their fear, loneliness and despair. Many never make it out of the cage or kennel to enjoy a life of love and security…they have no toys or grass to romp on, they never feel a soft breeze sweep across their tender noses or experience the warm arms of a loving human. Every day is the same type of bitter fear for them until they’re on the euthanasia table. Do you want to help change that? Please don’t buy a puppy from a pet store that sells puppies from puppy mills, which neglect and torture dogs for the sake of financial gain. This does not include large pet store chains that give space to local rescues. I believe in your right to invest in a purebred puppy, if that’s what y...

Ron & Jen’s Great Escape – March 22, 2023 – Ron St. Pierre and Jen Brien

Image
by Ron St. Pierre & Jen Brien, contributing writers, commentary THE WATER IS RISING Back in Noah’s day the world looked pretty much like today. Zero tech, but wrought with crime, deception, disrespect, zero personal accountability, lawlessness, tribal warfare, sexual deviousness, suffering, morality issues, etc., etc… People just didn’t seem to care about much back then, and many don’t seem to CARE much now, as well. There’s a sense of entitlement people carry that justifies (in their minds) their behavior. Example… I live next to a beautiful spot on the water with wildflowers and trees. It’s city property. My neighbor thinks she has a right to a view.  She lives across the street . So, she sneaks around with her husband cutting everything down (on city property) adding to the erosion issue and taking away the splendor of so much of what’s in back of my house.  It’s mind blowing. She thinks we do...

History of excavation: A rare fluffy mammoth fossil was discovered in a Michigan farmer’s field

Image
A routine drainage dig in Michigan turned into a fascinating discovery when farmers stumbled upon ancient bones buried deep in the ground. The discovery was made about eight feet below the surface, where the farmers initially thought they had hit a wooden object. However, upon closer inspection, they realized that they had uncovered a set of bones. According to reports from the Detroit Free Press, the farmers were digging in a field for the purpose of drainage when they made the discovery. The bones were found in a rural area near Chelsea, Michigan, and are believed to be from an ancient animal that roamed the area thousands of years ago. field for the purpose of drainage when they made the discovery. LeBron James injury update: Lakers expect star forward to return this season, says coach Darvin Ham

LeBron James is running out of time to return to the court. As of Sunday, the end of the regular season is only three weeks away, and yet it isn't clear when the injured Los Angeles Lakers star will be able to rejoin the team. Fortunately, coach Darvin Ham offered a positive update on his status ahead of Sunday's Game against the Orlando Magic: while he wouldn't specify an exact timeline, Ham did confirm that the Lakers "anticipate him coming back at some point." James suffered a foot injury on Feb. 26 against the Dallas Mavericks. He stayed on the floor to help the Lakers overcome a 27-point deficit to defeat the Mavericks, but he has not played for them since. While the exact nature of the injury is unclear, The Athletic's Shams Charania recently reported that the Lakers are preparing for a lengthy absence. All things considered, the Lakers have played quite well without James. Si...

Elden Ring Players Share Tips For A No-Death Run

There's a trajectory that every FromSoftware Game follows. After the initial hype and theories, the Game proceeds to break players. Then comes the first person to finish it, then the speedruns, and eventually, players begin breaking the Game in ridiculous ways. Of course, there are the glitches and exploits, but there are also heroes who manage to pull off Herculean feats to cement their place in History . A no-death run, while relatively common, is among these feats. Since Elden Ring has a new DLC on the horizon, albeit with no launch date, players will probably want to get in the swing of things. The Game offers an NG+ mode, but some might want to take it to the next level by attempting a no-death mode. Of course such a task requires help and support, and Elden Ring Subreddit was on the job. Breadley posted to the Subreddit, asking if anyone had tips for such a run, and to the surprise of many, the replies weren't filled with "don't die...
